A Hayes shop owner has been fined for causing excessive noise nuisance to neighbours.

Satpal Arora, owner of Kwality Food Supermarket in Coldharbour Lane, had eight refrigeration fans that were causing "distress" to those living in the residential area when they were in use.

He was warned by Hillingdon Council to reduce noise levels to help neighbours affected.

The council served him with an abatement notice requiring him to insulate the refrigeration fan units, and when he failed to do so he found himself hauled before magistrates.

Arora appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on June 23, where he admitted failing to comply with an abatement notice in respect of noise nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

He was ordered to pay a £580 fine, full council costs totalling £710 and a victim surcharge of £53.

Councillor Jonathan Bianco, cabinet member for finance, property and business services at Hillingdon Council, said: "Despite presenting Mr Arora with evidence that the noise made by eight fans in his shop were causing distress to his neighbours on several occasions, he did not take action.

“This prosecution shows that Hillingdon Council takes complaints about noise seriously and expects local businesses to operate in a responsible manner."
