A Hayes primary school pupil has designed a new Bag for Life especially for the upcoming Asda store opening.

Hannah Swain, from Botwell House Roman Catholic School, designed the bag as part of a competition run to engage with people in the local area.

The winning design will be printed on 10,000 bags and sold for 6p in the new store, with all proceeds from the sale of the bags going to a charity of the schools' choice.

The team at Asda are looking forward to opening the new store and love the new bag design.

Lee Randall, general store manager, said: “The winning design is ace! The managers and support colleagues in our recruitment centre helped select the winning design from many hundreds that entered from the two schools.

“Opening a new shop is a great experience and it's now very often I personally get the chance to open two as I opened the Woking store last year.

“Hayes is up and coming and seeing the regeneration plans was an eye-opener and very exciting.”

Entries came from Botwell House Roman Catholic and Hewens Academy primary schools.

Community colleagues at Asda, such as Claire Rose, want to work alongside charities, local businesses and support groups to help make a difference to Hayes.

Mr Randall added: “We've already worked with local schools and YMCA to provide opportunities nd we aim to be a perfect business partner to the area.

“We'll have a community room in our new shop which is open to groups and charities that wish to pre book and for and use for free. We will provide the tea and coffee too!”

The Bag for Life prize winner received a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and Google Chrome Cast prize at a school assembly on May 20.

The new Asda store will open its doors on the 6th July in North Hyde Road, Hayes.
