A man from Hayes has been fined £8,000 by Uxbridge Magistrates' Court after he illegally built a two-storey extension to the side of his house and then failed to knock it down after being caught.

Akmal Hussain, of Colbrook Close, was prosecuted by Hillingdon Council and fined the huge sum on October 6.

The 40-year-old failed to submit a planning application to the council for his side extension, rear extension, and loft extension.

He then failed to comply with a notice forcing him to remove the extensions.

Hillingdon Council's cabinet member for planning, Councillor Keith Burrows, said: “This case illustrates a blatant disregard on behalf of Akmal Hussain for both the law and our residents.

“It is a great win for the council and sends a strong message to anyone who's thinking about breaching our planning and housing laws."

Cllr Burrows added: “The planning laws are in place to protect our residents from unsightly, unneighbourly and illegal extensions to property and to avoid increased pressures on local infrastructure and amenities.”
