Harrow's parks have been recognised as some of the best in the country after five recently received Green Flag awards.

Canons Park, Harrow Rec, Kenton Rec, Roxeth Rec and Pinner Memorial Park were all judged to be excellent by Keep Britain Tidy, which each year awards flags to the nation’s best parks and green spaces.

The award is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK and are judged by a panel on the basis of eight key criteria.

Roxeth Rec was one the parks given the award

These include making sure that the park is:

  • A welcoming place
  • Healthy, safe and secure
  • Clean and well maintained
  • Sustainability
  • Conservation and heritage
  • Community improvement
  • Marketing
  • and Management

The award is also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve high environmental standards, setting a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.

A Harrow Council spokesperson said: "In Harrow we’re spoilt for green spaces and beautiful parks – they’re perfect for a healthy, fun and free day out in the sun.

"Please help us to keep them looking great by using a bin or taking your litter home."
