A man wanted for theft allegedly turned on officers in Harrow town centre when they arrested him, according the the Metropolitan Police.

Officers stopped a man in Greenhill Way, behind St George's Shopping Centre, at 2.40pm on Tuesday (September 5).

The 31-year-old man was wanted in connection with theft offences, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

A spokesman for the force said: "On arrest the male became violent and assaulted three officers.

"None of the injuries sustained by officers are lasting.

"The male was restrained and taken to a north London police station where he currently remains."

Police are continuing to make enquiries about the incident.
