Harrow mum-of-two Aisha Ahmed, 30, says she is "in meltdown" after a faulty wet room backed up and flooded her council home with dirty water which she claims is sewage.

Miss Ahmed says she has been complaining about the wet room at her Hornbuckle Close council home for months but that Harrow Council "has done nothing" to fix the problem.

The worried mum's daughters aged two and five both suffer from respiratory problems which she claims have been made worse by the damp the wet room creates.

The family have lived in the property for a year and while the wet room has always been a problem things reached breaking point on Tuesday (June 12) when it blocked and then flooded their entire home, apart from the kitchen.

Speaking to getwestlondon on Wednesday (June 13) Miss Ahmed said: "There's dirty sewage water coming up through the plug in the wet room.

"It's flooded everywhere - my carpets, the hallway, it's flooded my walk-in cupboard, it's damaging my clothes and even damaging my photos.

"It smells of mould everywhere."

Miss Ahmed says that the situation is leaving her exceptionally stressed.

She added: "It's making me go into a meltdown where I'm not doing well for my children.

"My five-year-old, Shanay, has asthma and my two-year-old, Naomi, has bronchiolitis which she's getting special treatment for, but it is being made worse by the wet and the damp.

"Our bedrooms' floors are so soaked with dirty water that when you walk in them it comes up out of the carpet."

Miss Ahmed would ideally like the council to move her to a different property.

She said: "This house isn't fit for us to live in. If you walk in all you can smell is pure damp and a sewer smell.

"I've been ringing and emailing Harrow Council non-stop since yesterday but they've not got back to me - we have no idea if someone's coming out or not to fix this.

Aisha says damp air from the wet room has caused mould to form which has worsened her daughters' breathing issues

"We got through to the council's complaints office and they told me I'd have to wait 14 days for them to get back to me - I can't wait 14 days in a flooded house!"

She added: "It's got to the point that when my five-year-old gets out of bed to get ready for school in the morning her school uniform tights and socks get soaking wet.

"So just as we're leaving for school I have to change her and then she ends up late for school."

When asked to comment on the Ahmed family's case a Harrow Council spokesman said: "We’re reviewing Aisha’s housing as a matter of urgency and are committed to providing her and her family with somewhere safe to live.

"Our contractors have visited Aisha’s property a number of times in the last year in response to call-outs and have been back there again this week to try and resolve this issue for the long-term."
