Some of the top performing secondary schools in the capital can be found in west London, the Sunday Times Schools Guide has announced.
The newspaper’s Parent Power supplement lists St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in Harrow-on-the-Hill as its Sixth Form College of the Year, and reveals Waldegrave School in Twickenham is The Sunday Times Comprehensive School of the Year.
Schools in Hammersmith also feature prominently on a list of top independent secondary schools in Greater London.
The recognition comes a week after Fox Primary in Notting Hill was named the top primary school in the country by the Sunday Times Schools Guide.
St Dominic’s is consistently one of the top sixth form colleges nationally and ranks third in England this year, the same position that it occupied last year.
Just under a third of the leavers (29%) achieve A,A,B or better at A-level in two or more core subjects.
These include English, maths, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology and a modern language, and this impressive percentage has consistently been around this mark for a number of years.
It acts as a sixth form centre for two Roman Catholic schools in Harrow , but has a large proportion of non-Catholic children within the school – roughly 40% of the total intake.
The most recent Ofsted report is glowing and the school was judged outstanding overall.
Alastair McCall, editor of The Sunday Times Schools Guide, Parent Power, said: “Sixth formers in Harrow and the surrounding area are lucky to have such an outstanding school on their doorstep.
“Expectations are high on all sides and the children and the college deliver in spades. St Dominic’s turns out highly-qualified students ready to take the next step in their education or to embark on their careers with great confidence.”

The top independent secondary schools in Greater London is St Paul’s Girls’ School on Brook Green , with The Godolphin and Latymer in nearby Iffley road ranked ninth.
Waldegrave School in Fifth Cross Road opened its sixth form in 2014.
The school has carried over its success at GCSE , and now listed for the first time among the 11 to 18 comprehensive schools, it ranks seventh in the UK.
At its first attempt, it has managed to return three-quarters of all A-level grades at A* to B.
The Sunday Times Schools Guide describers this as “a remarkable achievement”.
Mr McCall said: “Opening a new sixth form is a huge challenge for any school with no guarantee that success will carry over from GCSE to A-level.
"Outstanding teaching and dynamic leadership have ensured that previous GCSE success at Waldegrave was translated to A-levels."
