Harrow Arts Centre looks set to close and needs your help to remain open.

Harrow Council can reportedly no longer afford the £500,000 annual subsidy, so money is being raised in order to save the centre from closing.

Residents are encouraged to donate money in order to save Harrow Arts Centre, with new management proposed from April 2016.

With your help, the building will be transformed into a 'South Bank for North London'.

The regeneration will include an independent cinema alongside the 100-year-old Elliott Hall, along with a new theatre, restaurant, bar and cafe.

The first hurdle I building the cinema, with the initial fundraising target set at £250,000.

Harrow Arts Centre has operated on the site of the Grade II Listed Elliott Hall since 1989.

A dynamic programme of theatre, music, dance, comedy and family events regularly attract sell out audiences, with learning activities delivering art, music and drama for children from babies to teenagers.

The centre is a hub of cultural activity with 100s of classes, clubs and groups using the spaces each week.

According to Harrow Council however, the site is hampered by an incoherent collection of old buildings which are not fit for purpose and costly to run .

'We do not want to see the centre close'

Registered charity, Cultura London, has developed a masterplan to transform the site and make it financially sustainable while reportedly retaining the historic Elliott Hall as its centrepiece.

Cllr Sue Anderson, Harrow Council’s portfolio holder for community, culture and resident engagement said: “We have always been a big supporter of arts in Harrow and know how much the community value Harrow Arts Centre.

“Like our residents, we do not want see the centre close. Due to cuts to government funding we have had to make some difficult decisions over the last year which has meant that we can no longer fund the arts centre.

“We have been working on a business plan to find a secure and sustainable future for the building and are now at a stage where a new management is to be proposed.

“In order to make this a success we need your help to raise money to build new facilities to help keep the arts centre open.

“A small donation can go a long way and we have done extremely well so far. I urge everyone to get behind the arts centre to help keep this much treasured building open.”
