Thames Water work has been suspended following a reported leak causing long delays on a stretch of road in Hounslow.

Motorists are advised to steer clear of Hanworth Road as there is traffic disruption in both directions at Wellington South Road junction and Nelson Road.

Congestion has been reported up to the junction with Powder Mill Lane in Whitton .

Workmen from Thames Water who were fixing the leak have temporarily stopped repair works.

This is due to the need to liaise with the local authority, in this case Hounslow council and Hounslow Highways, in order to complete the repairs.

Temporary traffic lights have been put up for use in the area and a diversion in place.

A statement from Thames Water said: "We've had to temporarily stop working on the leak on Hanworth Road.

"We will return as soon as possible to complete the work and fix the leak.

"Temporary traffic lights are in use at this location.

"We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause and ask motorists to bear with us while we carry out this essential work."

Hounslow Highways has reported on Twitter: "Temporary lights and a diversion are in place on Hanworth Road due to emergency Thames Water works."
