A man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after armed officers locked down a road in Woking on Thursday (April 20) afternoon.

Officers confirmed the 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with an ongoing Metropolitan Police investigation into a "non-fatal shooting" earlier this month in Hammersmith.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Detectives from the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command carried out a search warrant at an address in Goldsworth Road, Woking, on Thursday (April 20).

“This was in connection with an ongoing investigation into the non-fatal shooting of man in Hammersmith on Saturday (April 15).

“A 29-year-old man was arrested at the address in Surrey on suspicion of assisting an offender and is currently in custody at a west London police station.”

Armed police officers in Goldsworth Road, Woking

The operation in Goldsworth Road took place at around 5pm, concentrated between Oak's Road and Vale Farm Road in Woking.

An eyewitness said pedestrians were told they should not enter the area "for their own safety".
