A pensioner was taken to hospital in a "critical" condition after being hit by a police car in Hammersmith on Wednesday evening (July 12), police have confirmed.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the collision happened at Hammersmith Broadway, outside Hammersmith Tube station, shortly before 6pm.

He said: "Officers in a marked police car were on route to an emergency call when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian in Hammersmith.

"The man, aged 71, has been taken by London Ambulance Service to hospital in a critical condition.

"Police are in the process of informing next of kin. There are no other reported injuries. Road closures are in place."

He confirmed no arrests have been made and that the police car involved was "travelling on blues and twos at the time of the collision".
