Are these haircuts literally too cool for school?

They have all been banned by Isleworth & Syon School , which claims they do not meet the high standards expected of pupils' appearance.

At least five students were sent home on Tuesday (September 7) and others were forced to study in isolation as they returned after the summer holidays, getwestlondon understands, after their hairdos were found to fall foul of the school's strict policy.

The mother of one of those pupils, whose son's hair bore a passing resemblance to One Direction star Liam Payne , labelled the school's stance "crazy.

Amanda Brewster, whose 13-year-old son Harry was sent home for sporting a similar short on the sides, long up top hairstyle, has also vented her anger.

Harry Brewster was turned away from Isleworth & Syon School for sporting this hairstyle

She said he had already missed a week before the summer holidays because his hair was ruled too short, even though she said it was a grade two, which is acceptable according to the school's guidelines.

He had also missed a considerable number of days due to severe tonsillitis, she said, and could ill-afford to miss more lessons.

However, she said she was not prepared to shave his hair all over to a grade two length, as the school had demanded.

"He missed so much school for medical reasons that the headteacher called me in, and now they're excluding him for silly stuff like this. It's ridiculous," she said.

The school has stuck by its policy, saying it makes "no apology" for setting the highest standards.

Its website brands a dozen hairstyles as "unacceptable" and cause for exclusion.

What do you think of the list? Is the school justified, or should it cut students some slack?
