Footage from inside Grenfell Tower showing officers climbing the fire escape has been released four weeks after the blaze devastated the high-rise social housing block.

The video was captured by Disaster Victim Identification officers who are working to recover the remains of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire on Wednesday June 14.

The officers, clad in white suits and rubber gloves and wearing breathing masks as they enter through the building's main entrance, which is surprisingly unscarred.

The officers climb the stairs up through the 24-storey building and with each floor, evidence of the horrendous fire becomes more and more apparent.

By the time they reach the 19th floor, the walls are blackened and charred and the devastation caused by the fire is plain to see.

On Monday (July 10), police reaffirmed that they believed the death toll to be around 80 people.

Scotland Yard also revealed for the first time that 225 residents of the North Kensington tower block had managed to escape.

Met Police believe on the night of the fire there should have been 350 people in the tower block, but 14 were not at home.

Police have formally identified 32 victims and carried out 55 post-mortems.

Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy speaking to the media near Grenfell Tower

On the four week anniversary of the fire on Wednesday July 12, Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy said: “As we all reflect upon what happened my thoughts, and those of all of us in the Met, are with those who lost their loved ones, their homes and a community that is in mourning.

“Four weeks ago a terrible tragedy unfolded within Grenfell Tower.

"The human cost of that tragedy is something we are all still trying to fully comprehend.

“For many people the events of that night will remain with them forever.

“Each and every one of us involved from the Met is determined to do all we can to return those who died to their families as soon as we can.

"Today, we remember all those who have been so deeply affected.”
