More than £3 million was given to survivors and those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in the last week.

Figures show an acceleration in the distribution of funds, with a rise from £2.8m to £5.8m.

Initial payment to grieving relatives and those injured have also doubled, and a further £15,000 payment is expected to be made imminently.

The data was released by the Charity Commission on Thursday (August 17), after it was revealed earlier in the month that just 15% of money raised had reached survivors .

However, it still means less than a third of all money raised has reached the pockets of those affected by the fire.

David Holdsworth, registrar of charities in England and Wales, said: “We are pleased that a further £3m has reached survivors and those affected by this terrible tragedy in the last week, and that further funds will be distributed in the coming days.

"Some challenges still remain but it is important that the charities continue to work with the community and that the remaining funds are made available to meet their short, medium and longer term needs.”
