Budding hoteliers could be in with the chance of owning a Grade II mock Tudor landmark, if they have at least a spare £2million floating around that is.

The Railway Hotel in Station Road, Edgware, is up for auction with a guide price of £2,000,000.

The listed building is up for sale complete with planning permission to create a 90-bedroom hotel.

It comes with permission for a change of use, partial demolition to the back of the existing building, plus a two-storey rear extension, the erection of a three storey building with basement and a 31-space car park.

An advert on Auction House London reads: "The property currently comprises a Grade II Listed 90 bedroom Hotel arranged over ground and two upper floors.

"The property occupies a landmark position on a primary shopping parade in Edgware amongst local shops and amenities.

"The open spaces of Chandos Recreation Ground are within easy reach.

"Transport links are provided by Edgware underground station (Northern line)."

The Railway was built in the 1920s, but was closed in the early 2000s and has remained derelict since.

Resident Mark Amies set up a petition to protect the landmark in 2016 , after a fire left a portion of the ground floor ruined.

He said: "I think it's sad that a building that was so much part of Edgware's history, and that has a special place in the publics' hearts - a place that people had fun, met friends, and potential partners - has been left to deteriorate.

"The fact that it has had a number of different owners since it closed, none of whom have done anything with it, is shameful."

A total of 1,470 supporters have so far signed the petition, which reads: "The feeling amongst local people is that a developer wants the site to build more apartment blocks on, as it sits amongst other derelict sites.

"Ironically the Railway Hotel has a Grade II listed status, however it continues to be under great risk.

"Please help to petition Historic England and Barnet London Borough to properly protect The Railway Hotel and find an owner who will restore it and put it into use, so the public can enjoy it again."
