St George's shopping centre in Harrow is celebrating turning 20 years old by inviting anyone who shares a name or birthday with the centre to join in a giant game of pass the parcel.

The shopping centre is inviting anyone sharing their name or birthday to head to the centre on their 20th anniversary, Saturday (April 23) and join in a huge pass the parcel game.

So, if you're a George, Georgina, Georgia, Georgie or similar or if your birthday is April 23, be sure to visit St Georges for a chance to win.

Everyone who joins in will be an instant winner and share the birthday fun as each layer of the parcel will contain a prize and will also receive a Nando’s voucher and a lollipop.

All participants will also be entered into a main prize draw to win an evening with George, a night out at the centre to include dinner and a movie.

St George's first opened in 1996, but what else happened that year?

  • Hearts were broken as Take That announce that they were to split. But later that year the hole they left was filled as Spice Girls debut, Wannabe, stormed the charts.

  • Plans to build a giant dome in Greenwich for the millennium are announced.

  • The Euro Championships took place in the UK with England narrowly missing out on a place in the final, losing to Germany … on penalties!

  • Internet usage increases as 4% of the UK population have online access.

Centre manager at St George’s shopping centre, Darren Harman, said: “St George’s is a fantastic place to work, the team here and the city are amazing.

"To see the 20th anniversary of the centre is a fantastic milestone. 1996 doesn’t seem that long ago, but to look back now and think of only 4% of the UK accessing the internet, so much has changed.

“Who knows what will be happening when we celebrate 30 years, but it’s going to be exciting to find out!”
