The past seven days have seen a number of wide-ranging stories grabbing your interest. Here we run down some of the top stories you read over the week.

Millions was raised for charity when runners took to the streets on April 24 for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon. Once again tens of thousands took part, including getwestlondon’s very own Emily Chudy, who later shared her experiences .

And it looks like there are an awful lot of people seriously contemplating putting themselves through the wringer for great causes, judging by the numbers who wanted to know how to take part in next’s year’s epic run .

This year was memorable even before the start, with some forecasters predicting snow on the big day . The main event itself had an even more than usual out-of-this-world feel with astronaut Tim Peak starting proceedings form the International Space Station currently orbiting earth .

As ever, there were some weird and wonderful costumes on display to entertain the thousands watching and supporting the runners, but this year’s marathon was also touched with tragedy when one runner collapsed and later died three miles short of the finishing line.

And then it was over, with nothing but left but for the authorities to tidy the mess caused by nearly 40,000 runners and the thousands more watching, in the blink of an eye.

Excitement at British Disneyland opening near London

There was a lot of excitement at the news of a potential new theme park, dubbed a ‘British Disneyland’ opening near to London.

The £3.2 billion project by London Paramount has been earmarked for between Gravesend and Dartford in Kent, and could arrive as early as 2021, attracting some 40,000 visitors a day.

Man dies in suspected arson attack

Sherif Adel Makar Habib, 21, was taken to hospital after being rescued from the garage fire, but later died

Tragedy struck in Southall when a 21-year-old died from burns sustained in a suspected arson attack on April 25 .

It happened at Cranleigh Gardens, at 12.55am. A man was pulled from a collapsed garage and taken to a specialist burns hospital in Essex, but failed to recover from his injuries.

He was later named as Sherif Adel Makar Habib , a duel British and Egyptian national from Acton.

Three people were subsequently arrested and have now been bailed .

Accident causes traffic 'carnage' in Hayes and Southall

Let’s hope you weren’t one of the unfortunate people stuck in traffic "carnage” following the collision between a car, lorry and bus outside a Tesco Extra petrol station on Bulls Bridge Industrial Estate, Hayes Road, on April 24.

One driver contacted getwestlondon as they were stuck in the traffic, and saw the damage caused to a black Jaguar car. She said: “The traffic was horrendous, we just didn’t move.”

It happened at around 1pm and would be five hours until the obstruction was cleared. But on a positive note, there were no injuries.

Rough sleeper taken to hospital with head injury after 'nasty' incident

Ambulance crews alerted police to a man found injured in Uxbridge High Street

Police are investigating an incident in Uxbridge town centre after a man, believed to be a rough sleeper, was taken to hospital with a head injury .

An eyewitness saw police on the scene and described the incident as ‘nasty’ and involving a homeless man.
