Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas , has called on the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to review funding settlements for the the London North West Healthcare Trust.

The MP claims that the 'financial crisis' in Harrow's NHS has worsened significantly in the last year, with the NHS Trust , which is responsible for Northwick Park Hospital , having an underlying deficit of £100m.

Mr Thomas claims the the Trust is expected to cut the deficit to £61.5m by next March and is planning to cut 140 full time staff posts.

In a letter written to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt , Gareth Thomas has called on the government to ensure that Harrow's NHS receives the funding it needs.

Harrow's NHS has reportedly received the lowest funding per head in London, with a deficit now standing at £20.1m according to the MP.

In January, it was revealed that 1 in 4 patients at A&E had to wait more than 4 hours .

Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas said: “The Trust that manages Northwick Park Hospital is being asked to make savings of around £34m this year, and is expecting to lose the equivalent of 140 full time staff.

“Harrow CCG, which decides how money is spent in our local NHS, is also facing severe financial pressure, with their deficit now standing at more than £20m.”

The upcoming closure of the Charlie Chaplin children’s ward at Ealing Hospital means that from June 30, children will not be admitted to A&E at Ealing and will be diverted to other hospitals including Northwick Park.

Gareth Thomas continued: “For too long under the Tories Harrow’s NHS has received less than other areas, and we have seen huge pressures build up at Northwick Park.

“Jeremy Hunt urgently needs to get a grip, and make sure that Harrow’s NHS receives the funding we need.

“I hope Harrow residents will support my petition calling for an urgent review of Harrow’s funding settlement for the NHS.”

A spokesperson for London North West Healthcare Trust told getwestlondon: “The Trust is on target to deliver its planned deficit of £88.3m for 2015/16 and will reduce that further to £61.5m by the end of this current financial year.

"Our savings programme will include cutting staff costs with the main focus being on reducing agency spend.”
