The MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip Boris Johnson toured some local facilities and took time out of his busy schedule to open a children's ward at Hillingdon Hospital .

Mr Johnson visited his constituency on Friday October 21 where he also paid a visit to residents of an Uxbridge care home.

The Foreign Secretary officially opened the children's Peter Pan wing, which is the children's emergency and long stay admission ward at Hillingdon.

Mr Johnson , who is the former Mayor of London, said: “We're going to need great facilities like this more and more, so congratulations to everyone involved.”

The wing includes en-suite rooms with space for patients' families, a dedicated treatment room and a communal room for teenagers with a TV and games consoles.

Chief executive of Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Shane DeGaris, said: “This is a great example of our ongoing commitment to improving women's and children's services, already highly regarded, and this sort of facility is the sort of template we want for buildings like this right across the hospital.”

Mr Johnson also spend around an hour at Ryefield Court care home in Ryefield Avenue where he chatted with residents.

Manager of the home Jane Jones said: “[The residents] really enjoyed meeting him.

“He went straight to the residents and was mixing with them.

“He was really down to earth and he was really nice.”

The Conservative MP recently visited Uxbridge to help celebrate the 50 birthday of a special school where he helped open a new sensory garden.
