The owners of a long-established family business in Shepherd’s Bush say they are losing out because of Tesco delivery lorries being parked outside for long periods during the day.
Menswear store Stuarts London has been trading in Uxbridge Road for 60 years but says it is missing out of passing foot trade and new customers because of the huge lorries, which are parked on double yellow lines, delivering produce to the nearby Tesco Express .
Co-owner, Arvind Grewal, said he has tried complaining to Tesco branch manager and customer service but with no luck, and has been told by Hammersmith and Fulham Council the supermarket giants do not have permission to park their lorries there.
He said: “It’s getting really bad. We’ve got QPR up the road and sell 80s casual wear brands.
“A lot of our trade are football customers, but if they’re walking on the other side of the road they can’t see the store, let alone cross the road.
“And if is car is driving to or from London they can’t see us either.
“It’s having a huge impact on the store and the money we’re making.”
He said one or two lorries are usually parked outside the shop between 10am and 6pm on every day of the week for around 90 minutes to two hours except for Sundays.
Mr Grewal, who claimed he is often spoken to rudely when confronting the drivers, said: “Saturdays used to be a big day for us, but if you have two lorries outside, then the away fans don’t see us.
“It’s really hitting us, we are losing potential customers.”
A spokesman for Tesco said: “We are always conscious of being a good neighbour so our local store manager will be in touch with Mr Grewal to discuss any concerns he has.”
