Florists in Isleworth have been hit with a bill of nearly £2,000 for displaying their wares on the street without permission.

Warren Bushaway and Alan Hockley, who ran Stargazer Flowers in St John's Road, near Isleworth station, placed plants and greetings cards for sale on the pavement outside their store despite not having a street trading licence.

Hounslow Council said its licensing team had issued the pair with a number of fines in late 2015 and early this year, as well as visiting and writing repeatedly, but the traders continued to flout the regulations.

Hockley, 43, of Church Street, Weybridge, and Bushaway, 36, of the same address, appeared at Feltham Magistrates' Court on August 15, where they both admitted two counts of illegal street trading.

They were fined £500 each and were both ordered to pay £450 towards court costs, plus a £30 victim surcharge each - bringing the total bill for the two of them to £1,960.

The pair had previously been prosecuted by the council in 2014 for five separate offences of illegal street trading.

Council leader Steve Curran said: "Any trader found to be displaying their goods on the streets without the relevant licence will be caught, will be dealt with and if they don't comply and continue to do trade in this way which is illegal, we will prosecute.

"We will act strongly with those irresponsible businesses who think they can ignore what everyone else has to adhere to. We will always take the toughest action possible and let this prosecution be a warning for others."
