A £500k upgrade at Northolt Leisure Centre is under way to provide new equipment and extra facilities for customers.

Work started at the centre on March 15 after investment from Everyone Active, which operates the gym in partnership with Ealing Council, and is due to be completed by May 1.

The latest equipment includes treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, Adaptive Motion Trainers (which allow you to walk, run, climb and lunge) and Concept 2 rowing machines for cardio workouts, and the kit also has screen consoles and full internet browsing.

The strength and resistance area is being enlarged with abdominal and back machines, resistance training systems, super benches, heavier dumbbells, a power cage and an Olympic bench press.

A dedicated virtual group cycling studio will also be added, where a simulated instructor will take participants through their paces on a giant screen.

Everyone Active general manager Amar Varsani said: “We’re excited to be embarking on these investment works which will incorporate the latest kit and technology and enhance Northolt Leisure Centre’s already impressive offering.

“We hope the upgrade will encourage more local residents to get active and get their summer body blitz off to a strong start.”

Ealing Council's executive director of environment and customer services, Keith Townsend, said: “It’s fantastic the gym will be transformed with this investment and will offer more exercise opportunities for everyone, so residents can enjoy getting fit this spring.”

Disruption will be kept to a minimum and the majority of facilities will remain open as usual throughout the works. However, there will be a slight reduction in the range of equipment available in the gym.
