This is the apartment block which could replace an iconic shop in Hounslow.

The housing association A2Dominion has applied to build 127 homes on the site of the old Wheelhouse store in Bell Road, just off Hounslow High Street.

The planned building varies in height from six to 11 storeys and includes space for shops, offices or other uses on the ground floor.

The homes would range in size from one to three bedrooms, with 41% classed as affordable. The planned development includes 256 cycle spaces but no parking spaces for residents other than 13 bays for disabled users.

The Wheelhouse homeware store closed in 2009 and the site was briefly occupied by Sunrise Plaza, another discount variety shop, but had been empty for the last three years.

The two-storey building with its distinctive clock was demolished earlier this year after A2Dominion bought the land.

The housing association's planning application, submitted to Hounslow Council, states: "The delivery of new housing and modern, flexible non-residential floor space on the site will not only introduce beneficial uses to the site itself, but will also support and strengthen the appearance, amenity and character of the town centre."
