A filthy vermin-infested takeaway, which stored rotting cucumbers and tomatoes covered in mouse droppings, has finally shut up shop.

Fried chicken shop Mama's Kitchen, in Northolt Road, Harrow , was so filthy and infested with vermin that even its food safety guide was found covered in dirt on the floor.

Owner Kalpana Ashokumar, 37, of Clarendon Court, Harrow, was fined a total of £24,905 for food hygiene offences after a surprise inspection.

But despite this, kebab and chicken fans were still able to place orders with JustEat , who then promptly removed Mama's Kitchen from their website.

Now, the shutter's of the unclean takeaway have been shut for more than a week, with a repossession notice served, according to a nearby business owner.

Sandro Peres, who runs tattoo shop Inks & Needles, said: "It's been closed for a week at least, there's been no business going on at all.

"When I came in on the Tuesday, there was a notice of repossession on the front. They've been having issues for a long long time.

"It is disgusting. Imagine you're one of those people who regularly eats there."

The landlord of the property confirmed he closed the takeaway

Mr Peres, who shares a communal area with Mama's Kitchen, hopes a new business will take over and start afresh: "The people who ran it, they've been here a few years," he said.

"When they took over the place it was not good. They kept the same name, Mama's Kitchen, but they left it in a sorry state. They would continue trading without trying to improve.

"To be honest, I don't think they'll re-open. I've not eaten there for years, I'd send my customers to other take aways down the road if they asked me where to go for lunch."

Gross! Rotten food and mouse droppings were commonplace at Mama's Kitchen

He added: "I've had many conversations with them, years ago there was a problem with rats.

"I did everything my end to ensure they didn't come into my premise and they didn't, there is no food here, so I never had a problem.

"We have a communal area at the back though, and there was always bags of rubbish, or food left out there. Hopefully someone comes in and guts the place out and starts afresh."

The landlord of the property, who did not want to be named, confirmed he closed the shop.
