High-speed fibre broadband is being rolled out to an extra 7,200 homes and businesses across Hounslow.

BT said the latest roll out over the next two years would bring the total premises covered in the borough to more than 96,000.

The investment by the telecoms giant's infrastructure arm Openreach is part of a London-wide programme to increase fibre coverage across the capital from 90% to 95%.

Hounslow Council leader Steve Curran said: "I'm delighted to see that BT Group is making a further investment in fibre broadband within Hounslow.

"Fast broadband is important to all, whether it's to provide access to council services, to enable people to enjoy watching the latest films and sports, or to help our many small businesses to win new customers and remain competitive."

Openreach's fibre network is open to all broadband service providers on equal terms to promote competition and keep prices low.
