The priest who led the annual service at Feltham's war memorial believes honouring fallen soldiers will always be a significant event locally.

Father Chris Vipers from St Lawrence RC Church was pleased with another strong turnout and said even when the last veteran has passed away their families and the wider community will still remember their sacrifice.

The event held extra significance this year as it is 100 years since the First World War broke out.

Among the VIPs at the memorial, in Feltham High Street, were Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Corinna Smart, Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra and the Deputy Lieutenant of Hounslow Maria Pedro.

Following the usual hymns and prayers, poppy wreaths were laid by representatives from local schools, organisations and armed forces.

The Last Post was played by Michael Candler from the British Airways band who compared to last year had been booked well in advance this time.

Following the service everyone was invited back to St Lawrence School for refreshments.
