A review of concierge services on council estates across Hounslow has been launched after a man was stabbed to death.

Sahil Roy was knifed to death on the Ivybridge estate in Summerwood Road, Isleworth, on April 10.

His killing prompted calls for better CCTV coverage and concierge services to make the estate safer, from, among others, the 28-year-old's cousin.

Councillor Sue Sampson, who convened a public meeting for people to voice their concerns in the wake of the tragedy, said action had now been taken.

Updating residents at a follow-up meeting on Wednesday, May 11, she said Councillor Katherine Dunne, Hounslow Council 's lead member for housing, had confirmed a borough-wide review of concierge services was underway and should be concluded by July.

Cllr Sampson said a second concierge service to handle general management complaints, in addition to the one at Easedale House, would be introduced on the Ivybridge estate at Windermere House by the end of May.

Extra housing officer promised

She also told those gathered at BridgeLink Centre that Hounslow Housing, which manages council housing in the borough, was introducing a third housing officer to deal with issues on the estate including rent and antisocial behaviour.

Residents at the previous meeting had complained about cuts to the concierge service, which they said left criminals believing they could act with impunity.

More than 100 people attended the initial meeting which was held in the wake of Sahil Roy's death

Cllr Sampson said the latest meeting was attended by around 100 people and had been extremely positive.

"It was great to see so many people there, and hear how many of them were volunteering to do things," she told getwestlondon .

"There's a lot already happening or planned on the estate and we're keen to ensure something good comes out of this tragic incident."

'Upgrading CCTV system will take time'

Cllr Sampson announced the council's neighbourhood enforcement team would work more closely with concierges to share information about antisocial behaviour.

She said a monitoring log would be introduced to keep track of enforcement officers after concerns were raised about the effectiveness of their patrols.

As for CCTV, which was a big bone of contention at the initial meeting, she said 14 faulty cameras out of 129 cameras on the estate were being replaced.

She said the council was also planning to upgrade the system at Ivybridge and other estates from analogue to digital, but said this was a complex process and would take time.

New boxing and football sessions

More activities for young people to improve their prospects and keep them away from the lure of crime were also in the pipeline, she said.

The council was working with Westside Boxing Gym to deliver new boxing sessions on the estate, she said, which it hoped to have up and running by July.

Football training sessions were planned in Redlees Park from June and there were also plans for music and dance sessions, though discussions were still at an early stage, she said.
