If you are heading out to grab a bargain in the January sales over the weekend, make sure you check the roads before heading out in your car.

Transport for London (TfL) are warning motorists to expect delays across west London due to sporting events and ongoing roadworks.

Here is our guide on where to avoid this weekend.

Chelsea

Motorists should expect delays on Sunday, January 8

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in Chelsea on Sunday January 8 due to an FA Cup football match between Chelsea FC and Peterborough United.

The match kicks off at 3pm and a large number of pedestrians are expected in the Stamford Bridge area both before and after the game.

Fulham road will be closed between Harwood Road and Finborough Road

Fulham Road will be closed between Harwood Road and Finborough Road.

Ickenham

The road surface damaged following a burst water main in Ickenham will be closed for longer than anticipated.

Breaskspear Road South will remain closed to motorists over the weekend after a closer look revealed more damage than expected.

Teams from Affinity Water together with Hillingdon council will continue to carry out the necessary repair work and ensure it is safe before it is reopened, which is expected to be on Monday January 9.

Hounslow

Vicarage Farm Road is closed at the junction of Great West Road in Hounslow to facilitate works.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in the area during the night, with temporary traffic lights on Great West Road also in operation at the junction.

The works will be in place until January 21.

Chiswick

TfL continue to warn of possible delays in both directions on the A406 Gunnersbury Avenue at the junction of Power Road in Chiswick .

It is due to the closure of Power Road for continuing bridge replacement works.

Works began in June 2016 and be completed on Thursday January 4 2018.

Knightsbridge

Work continues until April 2019 during the redevelopment of 55 to 91 Knightsbridge .

It is affecting the A4 in Knightsbridge in both directions between Wilton Place and William Street and the westbound bus lane is closed.

Motorists should expect delays in the area.

Hammersmith

Traffic will be affected on Saturday and Sunday

Motorists should expect delays on Hammersmith bridge.

The A306 at the bridge has a new weight limit imposed. Due to safety reasons, only one bus can cross the bridge at a time.

Works will continue until Sunday December 31 2017.

Hanwell

Expect delays on the A4020 Uxbridge Road in all directions at the junction of Boston Road in Hanwell due to works facilitating a major borough street scheme.

TfL warns of delays until September 1 2017.

Green Park

Constitution Hill, Spur Road and Link Road within St James' Park are closed to facilitate an event.

The Mall is also closed at Marlborough Road.

Motorists are advised that Birdcage Walk is closed eastbound, but open westbound at Buckingham Gate.

The roads will remain closed until Tuesday February 28.

Westminster

The road will be closed until January 9

Lupus Street in Westminster will be closed between Grosvenor Road and Churchill Gardens Road to facilitate National Grid Gas works.

TfL warns of possible delays on Grosvenor Road.

Fulham

There will be temporary traffic lights in place

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A3219 Dawes Road at the junction of Hannell Road in Fulham , to facilitate Thames Water works.

Expect delays.

Shepherd's bush

Wood lane will be closed in both directions

Motorists are warned to expect delays during the night as Wood Lane will be closed in both directions at the junction of Ariel Way near Wood Lane station in Shepherd's Bush .

The road will be closed between approximately 9pm and 5am over the weekend whilst works are carried out for the on-going expansion of Westfield .
