An explosion at a Ruislip petrol station could be heard for miles around in the early hours of Saturday morning (September 3) after thieves blew up a cash machine.

The offenders exploded the ATM at the Gulf petrol station in West Ruislip shortly before 1.35am, before fleeing with the contents.

A specialist police unit known as Flying Squad is investigating the robbery, but no arrests have been made.

This is the fifth incident of its kind in west London in a month after four other cash machines were destroyed in Hounslow .

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it was 'too early' to say if these robberies were connected.

They said: “An investigation will always consider if there are links to other investigations. At this stage, it's too early to say if that is the case.”

Posting online one person said: “I even heard it in West End Road. Petrified the dog. Had him jumping around on guard for ages.”
