As Hillingdon 's hub-airport, Heathrow, is the busiest two-runway airport in the world, have you ever wondered how 650 planes manage to land in one day?

Heathrow Airport takes into account a number of factors when planes arrive - such as safety, weather, scheduling, aircraft technology, airspace and noise reduction.

The video animation reveals that around 70% of aeroplanes have to come in to the airport from the east, as the wind direction is usually from the west.

Heathrow's day begins 4:30am, and as the video explains, around 16 aircraft arriving each day between 4.30-6am and use the quietest aircraft to 'give local residents a break'.

The hub airport recently celebrated it's 70th birthday, with actress Joanna Lumley unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
