Commuters are being warned of major disruption on the South West Trains (SWT) network between Barnes and Twickenham.

Emergency services were dealing with an incident which blocked the line between the two west London stations, during the evening rush hour on Thursday (July 7).

Earlier reports suggested disruptions were expected until at least 7pm, but the latest update has cancellations and delays of up to 35 minutes expected until around 10pm.

British Transport Police (BTP) reported a man was hit by a train at North Sheen station just after 3.40pm on Thursday (July 7).

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to identify the man and inform his family.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

SWT trains has said trains may be cancelled or delayed as they are unable to run between Barnes and Twickenham. Other services will be diverted via Hounslow where possible as the line towards London Waterloo remains blocked.

The rail operator has said tickets are being accepted on Transport for London tubes and buses.

Passengers travelling on the following routes will be affected and are urged to check before they travel:

- London Waterloo to Reading

- London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside

- London Waterloo via Richmond & Kingston

- London Waterloo via Hounslow & Twickenham

- London Waterloo via Twickenham & Hounslow

On Wednesday (July 6) a broken down freight train caused delays on the lines between Staines and Feltham.
