By-election to be held as councillors vacate Kensington and Chelsea seats

Two seats will be up for grabs following the resignation of two councillors, including Kensington MP Victoria Borwick

Two Abingdon ward seats in Kensington and Chelsea will be up for grabs in May

Eight candidates will challenge two vacant ward seats in a Kensington and Chelsea by-election.

They will be bidding win the seats being vacated by Kensington MP Victoria Borwick, and Joanna Gardner , who are both Conservative and represent the Abingdon ward.

The election will be held on May 5, the same date London goes to the polls to chose a new London Mayor and Assembly Members .

The list of candidates are:

  • Sarah Addenbrooke, Conservative Party
  • Jack Bovill, UKIP
  • Richard Braine, UKIP
  • Anne Cyron, Conservative Party
  • Benjamin Fernando, Labour Party
  • Jeremy Good, Liberal Democrat
  • Jonathan Owen, Liberal Democrat
  • Nigel Wilkins, Labour Party

Cllr Gardner has served since 1998, while Lady Borwick, also a Greater London Assemby (GLA) member, was first elected in 2002. She became MP following the surprise resignation of Sir Malcolm Rifkind, after he was caught up in cash-for-access claims .

When she was announced as the Conservative candidate for the General Election Lady Borwick said she would have to consider standing again as a ward councillor, and also stated her intentions to step down as a GLA member if elected MP.

Polling takes place between 7am and 10pm, with the results expected on May 6.
