An elderly woman was devastated after her purse containing bank cards and cash was stolen from her handbag while she was shopping in the Aldi supermarket in Yiewsley .

The victim was said to be “really upset” over the awful theft at around 2pm on Wednesday (February 8) in Yiewsley High Street and police are investigating the incident.

There were no witnesses to the theft, where the victim's purse was taken from her handbag in a shopping trolley, but the store does have CCTV cameras.

A woman who was shopping in the discount store at the time said: “She also attempted to steal another handbag but luckily the lady had hold of her bag and she couldn't take it.

“There was no witness but they have CCTV footage.

“I did talk to the elderly lady and she was really upset. The purse had all her money, cards and keys in.”

No one has been arrested in connection with the theft, and the Metropolitan Police said enquiries are ongoing.

A statement from the met said: “ Police were called at 2.07pm on Wednesday (February 8) to reports of a theft at an address in High Street, Yiewsley.

“A wallet containing bank cards and cash was reported to have been stolen out of a handbag that was in a shopping trolley.”
