An elderly woman managed to escape from a fire which ripped through the first floor of a house in Chiswick on Friday afternoon (March 6).

The woman had already made her way outside the terrace house, in Binns Road, which was damaged in the blaze before firefighters arrived.

She was taken to hospital by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service as she had suffered from smoke inhalation.

About a dozen firefighters tackled the inferno for more than two hours before it was under control.

Fire crews confined the blaze to the first floor which was left partly damaged.

London Fire Brigade said it were called at 12.45pm to the house fire which was under control by 2.57pm.

Three fire engines and around 14 firefighters and officers from Chiswick and Hammersmith fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
