Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an unprovoked attack on an elderly man which left him being treated for shock.

The victim, aged in his 70s, was driving his car - a black Honda Civic - along Green Lane, in Northwood.

As he slowed down at the traffic lights, at Eastbury Road, he spotted three men, all of whom have been described as white, in the central pedestrian island.

One of the men then ran out into the road and in front of the victim's car, causing him to brake sharply to avoid him.

The suspect then kicked the passenger side door and wing mirror of the victim's car.

He then opened the front passenger door and tried to grab the victim by his arms in an effort to drag him out. At this point the two men the suspect was with intervened, trying to stop him.

The suspect then gave up and closed the door and kicked the car three more times before moving away.

The victim drove away from the incident and immediately called police.

He attended hospital as a precautionary measure where he was treated for shock and bruising to the arms.

PC Louise Moloney, of Hillingdon Police, said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been at the location at the time to come forward and help us identify the suspect.

"His actions were utterly appalling and have left an elderly man frightened and apprehensive about being on the road.

"Thankfully the intervention by the two men possibly deterred further and more serious injuries being inflicted.

"No violence of this nature is acceptable."
