Eddie Izzard donned high heels around Ealing on Friday while rallying support for the Labour party ahead of the General Election.

The stand-up comedian and actor joined parliamentary candidate for Ealing and Acton Rupa Huq on the campaign trail from Haven Green to Ealing Broadway and the town hall, handing out leaflets and talking to people.

Mr Izzard, described as a "key activist for the Labour party" has been visiting key national seats, including Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth and Brent.

Between 50 to 60 activists followed in Ealing, all with banners and placards.

Ms Huq told getwestlondon: "It was brilliant to be joined by Eddie Izzard who is a truly inspirational figure to everybody and reaches beyond traditional party politics.

"Traffic literally stopped for him."

Steve Pound, who was MP for Ealing North and is standing as the labour parliamentary candidate in the constituency, also joined the parade.

He said: "I have never known anyone pull a crowd like Eddie Izzard. He practically brought the Uxbridge Road to a halt. It's not an afternoon I will forget in a hurry.

"He received a really positive, warm welcome. It's good to see somebody as famous as him take the time to come to us in Ealing."
