An Earl’s Court actress has held her first film festival at the Robert De Niro’s New York theatre.

Melissa Jean Woodside is the founder of the UK-US film production company Sublime Universal, and put on “female-driven” Catfish Shorts! short film night at the Tribeca Film Center in Manhattan on February 8 featuring movies from the UK, US and Canada.

Speaking afterwards, she said: “The spirit of Catfish Shorts! is to create a voice, a collaboration and a platform for filmmakers."

The launch of the biannual event in New York was celebrated with more than 100 specially invited guests from the film, arts and television industry enjoying a champagne reception at the Tribeca Grill.

And she is now turning her attention to future events. She said: “The next Catfish Shorts! event is planned to be held in London titled be ‘East vs. West’.

"Calling all filmmakers please keep your eyes peeled and your paws ready to pounce for when we put a call out for submissions for short films to be considered for the next Catfish Shorts!"

During the festival, Melissa presented exclusive trailers of her own short films, including Green Sweater Guy and royal romcom, Podsnappery: A Question of Conception .
