MP for Ealing Southall Virendra Sharma has backed a campaign by London’s Air Ambulance to raise money for a second helicopter.

Mr Sharma tweeted his support for London’s Air Ambulance, which is a charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London

A team can be by a patient’s side up to eight times faster than in a rapid response car and 39 patients were treated in Ealing in the first half of 2015 using this service.

Through the ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign, the charity is encouraging residents to donate the price of a cup of coffee towards a second helicopter.

Graham Hodgkin, Chief Executive Officer at London’s Air Ambulance said: “It is with thanks to the support of Londoners that we have raised over £4 million of the £6 million target so far. We are so close to getting the second helicopter in the air and I would like to make one last plea to everyone to support the charity in any way they can, and donate to ‘The Big Lift’ during National Air Ambulance Week.”

The campaign is hoping to raise £6 million and needs which £2 million is still needed to sustain a second helicopter and extend the charity’s daylight flying hours for five years.

If everyone in Ealing donated the price of a cup of coffee, £678,680 would be raised.

With two helicopters and extended daylight flying hours in the summer months, the charity will be able to reach an estimated 400 more patients per year by aircraft.
