An annual competition for the best gardens, patios, balconies, allotments or floral exhibitions has been launched for 2015.

The Ealing in Bloom competition, started in 1984, was launched on Thursday (April 9), at the Rose & Crown pub in Church Gardens, Ealing - last year’s Winner of the Licensed Premises Category.

Mayor of Ealing Cllr Tej Ram Bagha was present to get things going, as Ealing in Bloom's president.

Chairman, Hanger Hill councillor Nigel Sumner, said: "The Ealing In Bloom competition was initially organised by the Ealing Council Parks Department. The competition has now enjoyed thirty very successful years and winners of awards are always spread all around the borough.

"Because of financial constraints in 1988 Ealing Borough could no longer organise or run the competition. Our formal independent Ealing In Bloom committee was established – to better reflect the importance of such a prestigious competition and co-ordinate the appeal to both the business community and residents of the borough.

"There are a couple of availabilities on our sponsorship team if any company is interested.

"We admire and thank our sponsors for their loyalty to us – in the majority of cases – for in excess of twenty years."
