A driver who knocked over an elderly Wembley woman which led to her death on New Year's Eve has been jailed.

Singh Das Lohia, 28, of Montagu Road, was driving his BMW 7 Series when it hit 78-year-old Wieslawa Stachowicz in Harrow Road, near the junction with Clifton Avenue on December 27 2014.

The Metropolitan Police was called at around 9.15pm and the victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died four days later on December 31.

Singh, who stopped at the scene, pleaded guilty in March this year to causing death by careless driving.

Enquiries established he was doing between 53.8 and 62.2mph in a 30mph residential area shortly before the collision.

He was jailed for eight months and disqualified from driving for two years and four months at Harrow Crown Court on Friday June 9.
