Video footage released by Sussex Police shows an Ealing man speeding away from police on the wrong side of the road.

The video shows Saif Khan weaving in and out of cars before crossing onto the other side of a dual carriageway to flee from pursuing police in Crawley.

The 22-year-old was pursued on his Yamaha scooter after officers spotted him tailgating cars and breaking the speed limit on the southbound carriageway of the M23 at 8.25pm on February 16.

Saif Khan took off at 100mph according to police

Khan, of Whitton Avenue East in Greenford, Ealing, failed to stop after PC Steve Creal and PC Pete May indicated him to pull over, taking off at around 100mph to get away from them.

He jumped two red lights after leaving the M23 at junction 10 along Crawley Avenue towards Crawley.

At Hazelwick Roundabout, the video shows Khan crossing onto the wrong side of the dual carriageway, forcing officers to abort the pursuit in consideration of the safety of other road users.

Officers then came across a collision at Tushmore Roundabout in which Khan had collided with a BMW on the wrong side of the road.

Khan broke his hand but the BMW driver was uninjured.

Khan was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance or a licence after being released from hospital.

Khan has been sentenced to six months in prison

PC Steve Creal said: "Khan put himself and others in danger due to his reckless and dangerous driving.

"Instead of stopping on the M23, he continued to break the speed limit and try and get away from officers.

"His actions, jumping a red light and driving on the wrong side of the road, was extremely dangerous and is a miracle they neither himself nor anyone was not more seriously hurt or killed."

Khan was sentenced to six months in prison when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court on July 21.
