There's just something about staying in a hotel, isn't there?
The lobby, the smell of a clean room and the moment you jump onto your bed as you sink into a comfortable bliss.
Well Hilton, known for luxury hotels, opened a new Double Tree by Hilton in Kingston at the end of last year.
It feels tailored to overnight business commuters heading into London - but upmarket with the superb restaurant Hawkers and Brasserie next door.
The hotel, set next to the River Thames and a 25-minute train journey into the capital, offers 146 bedrooms, meeting and events spaces and an on-site gym.
Inside the it's dark, along with velvet chairs and a dark marble surface.
The walk-in shower was particularly pleasant and the 43" TV makes for a cosy evening in.
I particularly recommend using the gym, as there are so many good dishes on offer at Hawkers and Brasserie it'd be wise to work up an appetite.
My guest and I start with the Beef carpaccio (£13) and Pan fried scallops (£13), both excellent especially the former with its delicious Parmesan crisps.
Both were, however, far too small to justify the price tag normally associated with a main.
The highlight of the meal was certainly the Hawkers puff pie, a delicate crust surrounding 18-hour slow roasted lamb shoulder, smoked bacon and cabbage parcel with rosemary gravy (£16).
Meanwhile my guest's Gluten-free linguini (£12), with an additional option of adding King prawns, was a deft dish.
For drinks, I'd recommend the excellent Smoking goldfish (£8) - a stellar combination of smoked Islay whiskey, ginger syrup, applewood liqueur and home-made ginger jam.
And for a sweeter option, I'd suggest A Bloody Good Mary, an interesting cultivation of Russian Standard vodka, fresh lemon, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce and tomato juice.
The restaurant, which offers a breakfast buffet in the morning, is luxury to be in, with light-blue furniture, light wood and hanging lights.
It's not cheap but if you can afford a stay here as well as a dinner at Hawkers and Brasserie, you'll be in for a luxury stay at Double Tree.
