The diabetes team at Hillingdon Hospital has received £50,000 after winning a NHS Innovation Challenge Prize.
It received the money from NHS England , which had teamed up with diabetes treatment and care company Janssen.
The team at the Pield Heath Road hospital impressed judges by taking their Type 1 diabetes service to the schools of the children and young people most affected. In what is a UK first, it involves the outreach team working with six primary schools to run clinics.
It will use the £50,000 to support the extension of the school service.
The Innovation Challenge Prize saw three hospitals receive prizes and claim a share of the £200,000 on offer.
