A witness appeal has been launched after a woman was raped in Wembley.

Detectives from Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command are urging people to come forward after a female in her 20s was approached by a man as she was walking along the towpath from Ealing Road to Manor Farm Road, near Alperton , on Sunday (July 3) evening.

The suspect had a brief conversation with the victim in Polish before he shoved her on the ground and raped her, the Metropolitan Police said. The incident happened around 8pm.

He fled the scene towards Sainsbury’s after he was disturbed by a woman who was wearing a pink jacket while out walking her small brown dog.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5ft 10ins tall, with short hair and wearing a dark coloured jacket.

Following the horrific incident the woman made her way home and is receiving support from specialist officers.

Detective Inspector Daniel Smith, said: “The victim was subjected to a horrific attack as she simply made her way home.

“Despite it being late evening when the incident occurred it was still light outside and there would have been a number of people using the towpath that may have witnessed the events leading up to the attack or the attack itself.

“I am particularly keen to hear from the woman described by the witness as she may hold some vital information that could assist us with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call detectives from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command on 020 7161 0152 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police are also investigating an alleged sexual assault next to a pathway near a gym in Greenford , which took place on June 20.

Days before, a serial rapist police officer in Hounslow was jailed for 16 years.
