Passengers booked to fly from Heathrow Airport with Delta Airlines faced long delays on Monday (August 8) thanks to a computer glitch.

There were huge delays at the airline's Terminal 3 and 4 check-in desks when all flights were grounded after a computer system failure which originated in Atlanta.

As a result, thousands of passengers were left stranded at airports worldwide while the technical fault was dealt with.

A message on the Delta Airlines website apologising to customers stated a 'power outage' led to the cancellation of around 300 flights.

“While systems are improving and flights are resuming, delays and cancellations continue, Delta said in its latest statement.

“Customers heading to the airport should expect delays and cancellations. While inquiries are high and wait times are long, our customer service agents are doing everything they can to assist.”

Passengers aired their frustration at the queues, cancellations and customer service at Heathrow on Twitter.

However there was some praise for the airline from passengers too.

And those who were lucky enough to getaway despite hours of delay were happy to be on their way.

Flights have slowly started to resume but with a backlog of flights delays will continue.
