A larger police presence will be seen in the Covent Garden area after a man was stabbed in broad daylight.

In the aftermath of the knife attack at Brydges Place on Wednesday (August 9) afternoon, extra reassurance patrols have taken to the streets of Westminster .

A man in his 20s suffering from a stab wound remains in his hospital where his condition is described as "serious but stable", Metropolitan Police said.

Emergency services were called to reports of an assault at around 2.20pm and found a man suffering from a stab injury.

The additional measures from Thursday (August 10), particularly covering the Charing Cross area, have been taken to reassure the community following the stabbing.

A police operation, Operation Kaskara, is also running in the area in a bid to reduce antisocial behaviour.

Inspector Richard Jary, of the West End Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "We would like to reassure the community that Westminster remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

"People in Westminster, especially in the Charing Cross area, will see extra patrols on the streets over the next few days.

"Anybody who has any concerns is encouraged to approach these officers or call 101.

"Always call 999 in an emergency.

"Operation Kaskara is continuing to run in the area and is seeing good results in reducing anti-social behaviour."

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody.

Police enquiries continue.
