The construction worker trapped under a lorry on the site of the former BBC Television Centre in White City has died from his injuries.

The man in his 30s was pinned beneath a waste lorry at around 8.15am on February 22 .

He was taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital where he died later that day.

Next of kin have been informed, and the Health and Safety Executive will investigate.

The former TV BBC centre is currently being converted into television studios home and offices by developers Stanhope.

getwestlondon understands the fatal injuries were caused by a lorry reversing down a ramp.

A spokesperson for the developers said its thoughts and condolences are with family and friends.

Firefighters had helped free the man from beneath the lorry at the development site at Wood Lane, on the junction with South Africa Road.

The air ambulance helicopter was also at the scene but the worker was taken by road to the Major Trauma Centre at St Mary’s with serious multiple injuries.

London taxi driver John Davey watched firefighters trying to free the man.

He said: "I'm shocked to hear he's died. I heard he was on his way to hospital and I thought everything was going to be alright.

"It's sad news."
