Police in the capital are appealing to members of the public to donate presents for children who will spend this Christmas in care. And Ealing police are also taking part in the Christmas Tree appeal, which is being launched this week by borough commander Paul Martin.

People are being urged to give a gift by collecting a tagged ribbon from the special Christmas tree outside Ealing Police Station in the High Street and then buying a gift voucher from any shop for a child in care.

The suggested maximum spend is £20, and the vouchers should be returned to Ealing, Acton or Southall police stations before December 14.

Ribbons on the Christmas tree will be replenished if all used up, and vouchers returned after the cut-off date will still be spent on children in care. The appeal will be launched on Wednesday (Nov 19) when the borough commander will be joined by colleagues at Ealing police station to switch on their Christmas tree lights.

He said: “We would welcome the generosity of the public in supporting our Christmas Tree appeal. It is a worthy campaign, spreading a little Christmas cheer to those that may need a little more love than most especially during the festive season."
