Homeless people were taken off the streets by a kindhearted group of students who welcomed guests onto their campus and served up a Christmas dinner.

University of West London (UWL) students laid on the Christmas party complete with carols, presents and a three-course meal last Monday (December 11).

Eleven rough sleepers, who receive help from local charity Acton Homeless Concern, were invited into Freddie's Bar at the Students' Union for the festive celebration.

A traditional Christmas dinner was prepared and served by students from London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, while London College of Music students sang carols.

Hand-knitted scarves and season's greetings cards were then presented to the guests by students from London School of Film, Media and Design.

Ian Breen, centres manager at Acton Homeless Concern, said the Christmas party made a real difference to the local homeless visitors.

“I was very touched by the effort students put into the party,” he said.

"Our clients absolutely loved it - for them, it was a nice break from the monotony of being homeless.

"They especially enjoyed the music, while the lunch was a very welcome treat.”

Volunteers from the University of West London

Ola Arowosekila, project co-ordinator at UWL Volunteering Service, led planning and preparation for the event.

She said: “I'm really happy that our guests enjoyed themselves."

“At Christmas, it's so easy to forget there are many people who you can help," Ms Arowosekila added.

“This event was a great collaboration between schools and I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to making it such a success.”
