A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a rush hour collision in Westminster involving a lorry.

Metropolitan Police was called to the scene of the crash, in Chelsea Bridge , at 7.50am on Wednesday (September 27).

The female cyclist was in cardiac arrest as paramedics rushed her to hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a cyclist and we arrived on scene within six minutes of the call coming into our control room.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including two ambulance crews, two single responders and an incident response officer. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched by car.

"The patient – a woman – was in cardiac arrest.

"Extensive efforts to resuscitate her were made at the scene and on the way to hospital."

Police remained on scene for more than an hour after the collision, directing traffic while road closures were in place.

A spokesman for the force said: "A lorry had been in collision with a cyclist.

"The female cyclist was taken to a west London hospital.

"Local road closures are in place while emergency services deal."

Chelsea Bridge was fully closed off after the incident

Chelsea Bridge was fully closed off during the incident, as well as Grosvenor Road in both directions between Vauxhall Bridge and Chelsea Embankment.

Traffic was delayed in Chelsea Embankment, Battersea Bridge Road and Albert Bridge Road, as Transport for London urged motorists to use other routes.
